GHT Homepage Inside GHT Announcements Operation Fundraiser Grants 2005
26th Oct 2005
Operation Fundraiser is proud to announce that the final figure raised for charity after this year’s successful Manchester Pride event was £120,772. Thanks must go to everyone who generously supported charities and community groups that weekend.
The money will help continue to develop the work of many LGBT and HIV groups and projects in Greater Manchester. 25% of the amount raised has gone towards the provision of a free condom and lube scheme across Greater Manchester, and a second 25% has been put towards the George House Trust Welfare Fund and will be paid out directly to people living with HIV.
The remaining 50% is available for projects and groups to apply for through Community Futures. 25% (£30,190.50) will be made available to lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans groups and 25% (£30,190.50) to HIV projects.
Who can apply?
Any group or project working in Greater Manchester that is either a registered charity or another form of community or voluntary group. The fund will not give money to individuals or to statutory or private sector organisations.
We welcome applications from organisations or groups applying in partnership with other organisations.
What can be funded?
HIV Projects that:
- support people living with HIV or directly affected by HIV
- raise awareness of HIV or issues around HIV, including projects which aim to prevent transmission of HIV.
LGBT Projects/Groups:
- where there is a clear aim to improve or enhance the health or well being of Greater Manchester’s lesbian, gay, bisexual or trans communities.
- for an activity or equipment which be used towards meeting the above criteria.
- for core costs
- development costs
Operation Fundraiser wishes to see the money raised put to the best possible use:
- The maximum amount that can be applied for an HIV grant is £5,000 and £1000 for an LGBT grant
- Multiple applications will be accepted.
- Priority will be given to organisations that have a proven track record of delivering their service and completion of previous monitoring information.
- Applications are encouraged from other non-HIV groups or small and unfunded groups, particularly for smaller grants (e.g. £500).
Due to the limited nature of the funds it may not be possible to pay you the full amount of your application and multiple bids from the same organisation, project or group may not be approved.
When should you apply?
The closing date for applications is 25th November 2005. Applications should be sent to:
Karen Priestley
Knowledge Manager
The Lesbian and Gay Foundation
Princess House
105/107 Princess Street

Who will allocate the Funds?
An independent panel will be established for each grant to distribute the funds. The membership of the panels will be published on our website www.operationfundraiser.com.
Anything else you should know?
If your application to Community Futures is successful you will need to:
1 Spend the money on the project that you have applied for.
2 Acknowledge the financial support from Operation Fundraiser on any publications, reports, flyers, leaflets or websites associated with the grant. Materials should display the “supported by Operation Fundraiser” logo which we can supply.
3 Complete a short report and the project and financial monitoring forms before 30th September 2006.
4 Any funds which are unspent must be returned to Operation Fundraiser, though the Panel will consider proposals to spend any unspent monies on different items or projects on a case by case basis.
Failure to comply with these requirements may mean that a future application for funding is refused.
